David Cox was born in Kent, England in 1945. At five years of age he began eight years of piano lessons with the town organist. In 1969 he received his B.A. from the University of Victoria, part of his studies being the history of music where he developed an interest in the pipe organ. He took studies with Alex Ord, organist of Durham Cathedral in England.
David played for three churches in the Okanagan, conducting choirs in each of them, the last being the cathedral church of St. Michael and All Angels in Kelowna. When he moved to Port Alberni with his wife Edna in 2005, he played for Sam McKim’s “The Troubadours,” and The Barkley Sounds Choir and started playing the organ at Trinity Church.
David taught Advance Placement music in high school, accompanied Broadway Musicals as part of the school drama programme, and has built a Zuckermann harpsichord and medieval portative organ. He plays handbells with the handbell choir under direction of Michael Villette, and continues as organist of Trinity Anglican/Lutheran church here in Port Alberni.
